Yes, Tono doctors can prescribe medications. In addition to prescribing medications, we also have the capability to order labs, biopsies, and other tests if needed.

We coordinate in-person care and virtual care. For many patients, telehealth will be sufficient to handle their needs. Through telehealth, your providers can order medications, labs, imaging, or other diagnostic tests. There are some cases for which in-person care may still be needed for optimal outcomes. In these cases, our team will coordinate to help get you in-person care.

Tono is able to deliver specialty care virtually that is just as good as in-person, in most cases. Many patients get care 100% online and often times we partner with local providers in our hybrid care model:

  • Convenient video visits from home
  • Personalized, advanced treatment plans virutally
  • Chat with care team between visits
  • Referrals and partnerships with your local in-person providers

Most dermatology and endocrinology conditions can be managed virtually.

Both the American Academy of Dermatology and American Association of Clinical Endocrinology reccomend offering telehealth as an appropriate standard of care.

Tono's mission: Expand access to best-in-class specialty care.

Pricing and Insurance

Yes, we will work with you to use your insurance.

If we are not in-network, we will submit claims for out-of-network care to maximize your savings. We are actively enrolling to be in-network with many insurance plans.

Prescription medications and labs prescribed by your Tono provider are often covered by our patients' insurance plans. If not, we will help you find a cost effective alternative. We have negotiated special prices for patients who do not have insurance but are prescribed medications and labs as part of their care plan.

Using health insurance: Doctors on the Tono platform are in-network with many insurance plans. The cost or “patient responsibility” can vary depending on your plan. Tono patients commonly pay ~$30, although your costs may vary based on your insurance benefits and deductible.

Depending on your coverage, your responsibility will be a copay or co-insurance. We will bill your insurance and notify you by invoice if there is any remaining balance for you to pay after your claim has been reviewed. Again, that balance may vary depending on your coverage.

You may reach out to our team and we will work with your insurance to confirm your estimated cost before your first appointment.

Self-paying: The cost will depend on the visit type. For your first visit the cash price is $250. For ongoing visits, the cash price will range from $120-$250, depending on the complexity of care.

Tono is available to patients without insurance who are willing to pay out of pocket. If you do not have insurance, we can also help you find an insurance plan.

You can still receive care by paying upfront and getting a superbill from us. This document has all the info needed for you to seek reimbursement from your insurance company. While initial costs may be higher, many plans cover out-of-network services. Contact your insurer for details, and we're here to help if you have questions.
