Cosentyx® (secukinumab)
Cosentyx® (secukinumab) is a prescription medicine that is FDA-approved to treat people 6 years of age and older with moderate to severe psoriasis. This medication is also used to treat active psoriatic arthritis in adults.
Cosentyx® is the first biologic treatment that targets only IL-17A, one of the key molecules that is believed to play a role in the inflammation that causes plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. In clinical trials, the majority of patients taking Cosentyx® were clear or almost clear at 12 weeks. Many who saw results at 1 year maintained them at 5 years.
For patients with plaque psoriasis, Cosentyx® is administered by injection under the skin at weeks 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 and then every 4 weeks. Health care providers may recommend a different dosing schedule for patients with psoriatic arthritis.
If you think you might benefit from treatment with Cosentyx®, you can talk to your Tono dermatologist about this medication.
