Accutane (isotretinoin)
Accutane (isotretinoin) is a medication that is prescribed to treat moderate or severe acne. Accutane has been around since 1982 and has cleared millions of people’s skin. It is a form of Vitamin A belonging to a class of medications known as retinoids, which are used to treat many skin problems. It works by decreasing the amount of facial oil being released, in order to help the skin renew itself quicker.
Accutane is typically taken for 5-6 months, and it is the only medication in existence that can provide permanent clearing of acne symptoms for patients with moderate-to-severe acne.
If your acne is not improving with other treatment options, and you think you would benefit from Accutane (isotretinoin), talk to your Tono dermatologist about this medication.
